"It's a pure skill issue": Clair Obscur Expedition 33 head says the RPG's notorious volleyball minigame is "easy," then proves it on stage
Amid all of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's many well-deserved accolades, there's one thing even the game's most ardent fans are willing to complain about: the minigames. They're awkward to control, and players have been griping about their difficulty from the very start. Director Guillaume Broche has heard your complaints, and has some feedback of his own. You just need to get good, kid.
Broche was on hand earlier this month for the charity speedrun showcase Speedons in Lyon – sort of a French Games Done Quick. He served as a commentator for the Expedition 33 run at the show, and took the controller himself when it came time to complete the infamous volleyball minigame, as you can see in the video below.
He promised that he was "gonna play the game, and at the same time, prove that the game is really very, very easy, and it's a pure skill issue," as translated by GamesRadar+. Broche made good on that promise, too – mostly. He did beat the toughest opponent without much trouble, but he couldn't quite do it without taking a hit.

Also, fun fact: apparently French players just say "skill issue" in English when they're discussing the concept. This is your contribution to global culture, gamers.
In any case, Broche was clearly being a bit facetious about the whole thing, but it's equally clear that he believes the awkward challenge of these minigames is a feature, not a bug. Back around the game's launch, Broche revealed that he "personally insisted" on including the minigames, inspired by similar challenges in Final Fantasy 10. Hey, they're all very beatable – you just need to play better.
