India's Mobile App Economy Surges, Yet International Players Dominate Revenue Stream
India's app market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with in-app purchases reaching over $300 million during the first quarter — a 33% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from Sensor Tower. However, the vast majority of these earnings are being captured by international technology companies rather than domestic players.
Non-gaming applications emerged as the primary growth catalyst in the opening quarter, generating more than $200 million in in-app purchase revenue, marking a 44% year-over-year expansion and strengthening their position within the overall spending landscape, Sensor Tower's latest analysis reveals. The momentum was particularly driven by segments including utility software, streaming video services, and artificial intelligence-powered tools.
