Over 300 Victims Converge on Malaysia Seeking Justice in US$25 Billion Investment Scam
More than three hundred foreign nationals have traveled to Malaysia in pursuit of legal recourse following what authorities describe as the 'High Inspirations' investment fraud, which allegedly defrauded victims worldwide of approximately 100 billion ringgit, equivalent to US$25 billion.
According to their legal representative Andy Yeoh, the victims arrived in Malaysia on Tuesday after collectively losing more than 8 billion ringgit to what is believed to be an online investment operation orchestrated by a Malaysian national based in Penang.
How the Scheme Operated
For over three years, the fraudulent platform presented what appeared to be a legitimate investment opportunity. Participants witnessed consistent profit growth displayed on their accounts, with straightforward withdrawal processes and promised returns reaching 5 percent every two weeks.
Emboldened by these initial gains, many investors increased their commitments, channeling substantial portions of their personal savings into what they believed would secure their financial futures and enable a comfortable retirement.
The Collapse
The scheme unraveled abruptly when the perpetrator disappeared, leaving investors completely financially devastated. All accumulated funds vanished without trace.
Affected Parties
The victim cohort comprises primarily small-scale entrepreneurs and salaried professionals, with the majority being nationals from mainland China. Additional victims include individuals from Taiwan, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.
