Happening Now: Save Big on Outdoor Gear at the 2026 REI Anniversary Sale

The 2026 REI Anniversary Sale runs May 15 through May 25, and it’s the co-op’s biggest discount window of the year. For 11 days, everyone — member or not — can save 25 percent on REI Co-op brand clothing and gear, plus up to 25 percent on more than 6,000 products from outside brands like Smartwool, Black Diamond, KEEN, KUHL, The North Face, Outdoor Research, Mountain Hardwear, and Garmin. Members get even more: exclusive coupons, $100 off REI Adventures trips over $1,000, an extra 50 percent off bike installation services with a parts purchase, and 20 percent off a Re/Supply item in store.

The opening weekend (May 15–17) is where the deepest deals live. During those three days, the iconic REI Co-op Half Dome 2 Tent with Footprint and the Magma 30 Sleeping Bag both drop 40 percent. From May 18 onward, REI Co-op gear settles in at 25 percent off for the rest of the sale. There’s also a 50-percent-off REI Outlet event tucked into the middle of the sale, May 19–21, for members hunting clearance.

If you’re not yet a member, the $30 lifetime co-op fee unlocks the deeper discounts plus year-round perks: 10 percent back on eligible purchases as an annual member reward, free standard shipping, access to the Re/Supply used-gear program, a one-year satisfaction guarantee window, and the just-for-member coupons that make this sale meaningfully better than the public version of it.

These are the items I’m most excited about — the gear I’d actually put in my own cart. (Or check out the full sale catalog at REI.com/anniversary-sale.)

Our favorite camping gear at the REI Anniversary Sale

REI’s house-brand camping gear is where the Anniversary Sale really earns its reputation. The opening-weekend doorbusters alone are worth setting an alarm for, and the broader 25-percent cut on REI Co-op tents, sleeping bags, and pads makes this the right week to upgrade the kit you’ve been limping along with since college.

REI Co-op Half Dome 2 Tent with Footprint — opening weekend doorbuster

The Half Dome is the tent REI built its reputation on, and the 2-person version with included footprint normally runs $329. During the May 15–17 opening weekend, it’s 40 percent off — about $197. That’s a freestanding three-season backpacking tent with color-coded pole assembly, a full-coverage rainfly, and a footprint that usually costs $40 separately, all for under two hundred bucks. It’s hard to find a better entry point into backcountry camping.

The other 40-percent-off doorbuster is the Magma 30, REI’s premium ultralight down bag with 850-fill-power goose down and a packed weight under two pounds. Normally $349 in a medium, it drops to roughly $209 during opening weekend. That’s a serious price on a bag that competes with options $100–$200 more expensive. Nine size options mean you can dial in your fit instead of carrying excess fabric, which is the whole point of going light.

For the rest of the sale, all NEMO camp and sleeping gear is 20 percent off, and all Big Agnes tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are 25 percent off. This is where to look if you’ve had your eye on a Big Agnes Copper Spur or a NEMO Disco quilt — both brands almost never go on sale this deep, and the discount applies across their full lineup, not just leftover SKUs.

Our favorite clothing on sale at the REI Anniversary Sale

The clothing side of this sale is where the long-tail value lives. Twenty-five percent off premium technical layers from Smartwool, Outdoor Research, Mountain Hardwear, and select KUHL adds up fast when you’re rebuilding a layering system or replacing the merino base layer that finally gave up.

Smartwool merino baselayers and socks — 25 percent off everything

All Smartwool clothing and socks are 25 percent off, no exclusions. A Classic Thermal Merino crew that normally runs $115 drops to about $86, and the brand’s hiking socks — the ones that genuinely outlast everything else in your sock drawer — fall to roughly $18–$22 a pair. If you build out your sock rotation once a year, this is the week to do it.

All Outdoor Research clothing and outerwear is 25 percent off. The OR Foray and Aspire rain jackets, both perennial favorites for backpackers and bike commuters, drop from $229 to about $172. The brand’s Helium wind shells and Ferrosi softshells are similarly discounted, which makes this a smart moment if you’re filling a gap in your three-season layering system.

The men’s Stretch Zion pant — the unofficial uniform of climbers, river guides, and anyone who has ever needed pants that work for a flight, a hike, and a casual dinner — drops from $89 to about $67. The women’s version and the shorts get the same treatment.

Our favorite travel gear at the REI Anniversary Sale

Travel gear is where Anniversary Sale deals can quietly save you the most money, because the categories — luggage racks, GPS devices, footwear that has to survive cobblestones and trailheads alike — are ones you usually pay full price for.

Garmin fenix 8 smartwatch — $250 off

Save $250 on all Garmin fenix 8 smartwatches during the sale. The fenix 8 normally starts around $1,000, so this is a real discount on a real piece of hardware — multiband GPS, offline maps, weeks of battery life, and the kind of durability that justifies the investment if you’re someone who uses the device as a daily driver and not just on summit days. The Garmin inReach Mini 3 and Mini 3 Plus satellite communicators are also $50 off.

KEEN footwear — 25 percent off everything

Every pair of KEEN footwear is 25 percent off. The Targhee IV hiking boot drops from $165 to about $124, and the Newport H2 sandal — still the best travel sandal for places where you’ll be walking on wet docks one hour and dry trails the next — falls from $130 to about $97. KEEN runs sales rarely enough that this one is worth circling.
