Hands-on: Kuxiu’s S4 MagSafe battery is slimmer and adds a real-time smart display

Kuxiu has made some of my favorite Magsafe battery packs over the years. They were the first to give us a taste of the semi-solid state battery pack, which was ultra-efficient and kept safety in mind. They also brought one of the best features I’ve seen on any MagSafe battery pack: dual-sided MagSafe magnets, which let you add even more MagSafe accessories on top of the battery. Absolute genius. Now they are bringing us their brand new S4 Semi-Solid Safe MagSafe battery pack, and this might be their best one yet. Here is what you need to know.

Kuxiu S4 MagSafe battery pack

There is a lot to go over with this one. It packs a ton of specs and features. If you were looking for a MagSafe battery pack that checked off as many boxes as possible, this might be the one. Here is what you get.

  • 10,000mAh capacity
  • Qi2.2 standard, which supports up to 25W wireless charging
  • Supports 30W in and out wired charging
  • TFT display wth real time battery monitoring
    • Battery health rating
    • Operating temp
    • Battery level
    • Wired and wireless charging, real-time wattage readings
  • Built-in kickstand
  • Made of aluminum and glass
  • Weighs 214g

On paper, this is one of the more advanced MagSafe batteries I have used. It can charge two devices at once, and it has enough juice to charge your iPad Pro and even your MacBook Neo. But the standout feature is the brand new TFT display. The display gives you all the information you need about the battery at a glance and is perfectly hidden in the battery’s kickstand. But how did this all translate in real-world use?

My experience

Before I even used the battery, the first thing that stood out was the color. It comes in Black and Cosmic Orange. I wanted it to color match my iPhone, so I went with the Orange one, and man, does it look good. Kuxiu has done a fantastic job at perfectly color-matching the orange on the iPhone to the orange on the battery pack. The first did this on their X40 Turbo charger, and they have brought that over to this S4 MagSafe Battery pack.

But then the real killer feature here is the TFT display. As stated above, it’s placed right where the stand kicks out, and it’s in this oval pill-shaped design. To match the pill-shaped display, they went with circular UI elements to indicate the different levels of battery, temp, etc. The display provides six total readings:

  • Battery Health out of 100
  • Operating temperature
  • Battery level
  • Wireless and wired wattage
  • Battery safety alert

Now, the display shows only three of these metrics at once, but it dynamically adapts to the information that is most pressing. So if you are wirelessly charging your phone, it will show battery health, wattage, and temperature. As your charging circumstances change, so does the data on the screen. The only time the entire screen will be taken over is for the battery safety alert. I have personally not been able to trigger that safety alert, but it is good to know that if there is an issue, you can take action when that pops up. Overall, I love these diagnostic displays because they really let you see how fast something is charging or how hot it is getting.

How I used it

In practice, it works as intended. When you slap it on the back of the iPhone, it will start charging immediately. The fact that it charges at 25W means that I can get about 50% charge on my iPhone 17 Pro in just 20 minutes. There is also a low-power mode that can be triggered with the button, so you can trickle-charge something like your AirPods. The magnets are extremely strong as well. Even if you are using it on a phone with no case, the magnets are strong enough to stay on, even when wearing tight jeans or trying to shake it off. I was also able to use it to top up my iPad Pro and get a full 30W of charging, which is great because the 10,000mAh capacity is enough to charge my iPhone and also have enough left over to charge my iPad Pro when needed. Lastly, the kick stand is a nice touch. It allows you to prop your phone up in landscape, portrait, and even TV mode while charging. So this is great for those midday work lunch breaks to view some YouTube and eat some Chipotle.

Kuxiu also claims this is the thinnest 10,000mAh semi-solid-state battery available right now, measuring about 13.5mm thick. For context, an iPhone 17 Pro is 8.75mm thin. I do hope they release a 5,000 mAh version to see how thin they can get it!

Pricing, availability, and final thoughts

Kuxiu’s new S4 is available today from Kuxiu’s website for $84. It comes in Black and the Cosmic Orange, which is the one I have. This is now my go-to charger in all situations for the days that I am away from the office, and I also just use it at home. As someone who has a 17 Pro (meaning a smaller battery), I get to the end of the day with 5-15% battery life. So around 6 PM, when I am done at the office, I like to put this battery on to get me through the rest of the day.

If you are looking for a new battery pack or want to upgrade the current one you have, then this is a no-brainer. It is well built, feels premium, can easily charge your iPhone 17 Pro Max 1.5 times (or more), and has an awesome little display. Kuxiu even includes a really nice braided USB-C cable in the box to make sure you can start charging right away.

Let me know what you think. Is this something you would use? Are you looking for a new charger? What are your thoughts on displays being added to your battery tech? Let’s discuss below
