From bustling markets and historic castles to its forest and iconic coast, Tangier is city full of character. But what is it about this North African city that inspires visitors?

In this episode of Grand Voyager, Lilly Douse travels to Tangier, Morocco, to explore its culture, food, and history.

She starts at The Grand Socco and the Old Market, where the energy is immediate. The market is full of savory treats, fruit, vegetables and spices. It’s an authentic place that gives a sense of daily life.

As she moves through the narrow streets, she visits a traditional store filled with handmade furniture, copper plates and woven textiles. The items are made by local artisans who htheir skills down over generations.

Lilly continues to explore the historical side of the city, stopping at a fortress that has watched over the city for centuries.

After exploring the old town, she stops for Moroccan mint tea and dried dates, before heading to a private pottery class, where she learns how to make a traditional cooking pot.

Not far from Tangier is Chefchaoun, one of the most photographed sites in the north of the country. Here, she wanders through the ancient blue streets, a city full of character and history. From here, her journey continues to the coast where nature, history and mythology meet.

Along the way, Lilly meets with local residents who show her the hidden spots that are too often missed by visitors.
