Forest Green Rovers Dismiss 'Bacon Sandwich' Ejection Claims as Misinformation

The English football club has firmly rejected allegations that a spectator was removed from their stadium for bringing a bacon sandwich into the venue following widespread social media speculation.

A video that circulated online after Forest Green's decisive 5-0 triumph against Morecambe on Saturday showed a supporter being escorted out by stadium security. The clip, which subsequently went viral, carried claims suggesting the fan's removal was connected to the prohibited food item. The victory secured the club's progression to face Boreham Wood in the National League playoff quarter-finals.

Club Issues Statement

Forest Green, renowned for introducing the first vegan matchday catering menu in world football back in 2015, promptly addressed the controversy through an official statement published on their social media platform X. The club labelled their response with the hashtag 'baconbuttygate'.

"We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday. Contrary to social media opinion and wisdom, the ejection was nothing to do with bacon sarnies more a little 'over-exuberance' on the last day of the season. After repeated warnings, the stewards were left with no choice and the gentleman was ejected from the stadium."

Manager Confirms Denial

Football manager Robbie Savage further corroborated the club's position when discussing the matter during his BBC Radio 5 Live show on Sunday. Savage dismissed the circulating narrative as entirely false and completely unfounded.

"I've seen that, it's gone viral today. It's fake news. It's fake news, there was no bacon involved. I can 100% categorically confirm there was no bacon sandwich."
