Famed indie dev refuses to uninstall Baldur's Gate 3 even after finding Act 3 "too big" to finish: "I've got all this progress"

If you thought QWOP, the viral browser game that had us all frustrated in the school library over lunch, was overwhelming, you'll love hearing that its creator actually thinks the same of Baldur's Gate 3 – in fact, he has yet to finish the RPG.

Bennett Foddy, the legendary indie developer behind gems like QWOP, Getting Over It, and most recently, Baby Steps, admits as much in a recent interview with PC Gamer.

He explains that he's in a position I'm sure many of us have found ourselves in with Baldur's Gate 3 – the point at which you reach Act 3, but find it to be so massive it's unbearable… so you let the game sit installed in your library, even though you aren't playing it.

I've encountered many a run like this myself, creating countless Tavs only to halt their adventures in the third act – and Foddy apparently has done this same.

"I'm not sentimental about this stuff, but if I look at my actual Steam, I can see a game that should have been uninstalled, but is not uninstalled," admits the dev. "It's Baldur's Gate 3. I liked that game a lot, but here's what happened to me." Basically, Act 3 happened.

"Got a lot of enjoyment out of Acts 1 and 2. Then [in] Act 3, I got daunted. It was too big, and so I stopped." It's been a while since then, according to Foddy, which never helps – but all of the progress (and trust me, you can rack up a good 100 hours just reaching the final act) has him in a bit of a chokehold.

"That was a really long time ago now, but I also don't feel like I can be done with it," as he puts it… And, yeah, I get it.

"I've got all these characters, I've got all this progress, and it doesn't feel good that I'm leaving it there, so it's probably going to stay installed on the computer," Foddy concludes.

Honestly, I understand. It's hard to let go of your Tav and all of the decisions you made in however many hours you've spent on the game… even if you don't plan on touching it again. It doesn't seem as though the dev's mind is fully made up on whether he'll play in the future, however.

I do also wonder, with all these new games coming, what will Foddy do when Divinity releases? Will he similarly hit a bump in his journey to the RPG's finale? I know I likely will – heck, I'm over a thousand hours into Baldur's Gate 3 and it's still installed on my PC.
