The former owner of a Hong Kong bakery chain that went out of business has died after chasing a suspected thief and falling from an industrial building, the South China Morning Post has learned.

The force received a report at around 5.15pm on Sunday from a man who said he had spotted someone stealing cables at the Kimball Industrial Building in Kwun Tong.

The caller was a worker at a bakery inside the building.
