Ex-New York Mayor Giuliani in hospital, condition 'critical'

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is in "critical but stable condition," his spokesperson Ted Goodman said on Sunday.
He didn't provide more details about the 81-year-old's health condition.
"Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that strength now," Goodman said in a statement. "We do ask that you join us in prayer for America's Mayor Rudy Giuliani."
Giuliani was elected New York's mayor in 1993 after serving as one of the nation's highest-profile prosecutors.
He earned the nickname "America's mayor” for leading New York City through the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks in 2001.
From 'America's mayor' to Trump ally
Giuliani became an adviser to Donald Trump during the latter's 2016 presidential campaign.
He later served as Trump's personal attorney for a time, and became a vocal proponent of Trump's allegations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
Giuliani's failed efforts to overturn the election results led to criminal charges against him in two US states and a defamation lawsuit from election workers.
Giuliani has denied wrongdoing in the criminal cases.
A federal jury in 2023 ordered him to pay $148 million (€126 million) to two election workers in the defamation case.
Last November, Trump issued him a sweeping pardon.
Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, called Giuliani the "Best Mayor in the History of New York City" and said he had been "treated so badly" by Democrats.
Giuliani was also hospitalized last September after suffering a fractured vertebra and other injuries in a car crash in New Hampshire.
