Ecco the Dolphin: Complete Merges Remastered Classics with Brand-New Sequel
Creator Ed Annunziata's studio unveils comprehensive package combining enhanced originals and an entirely new contemporary title in the legendary franchise.
Following through on plans announced last year, Ed Annunziata's A&R Atelier studio has revealed Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, a comprehensive collection that bundles remastered versions of the first two games alongside a newly developed sequel. While an official release date remains unconfirmed, the developer describes the project as "the complete, definitive Ecco the Dolphin experience, created by the people who made the originals."
What's Included
The package encompasses "all versions of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time," paired with "a brand-new contemporary Ecco game," according to A&R Atelier. Beyond visual enhancements to the classic titles, the collection will feature built-in speedrunning capabilities, achievement systems, and competitive leaderboards. Players will also gain the ability to design custom courses using existing level assets.
Although the studio has not yet released footage of the new game or disclosed which platforms it will support, the official Ecco the Dolphin website displays a countdown timer that suggests further details will be announced at a future date.
Path to Development
The project's creation reflects a long road for Annunziata, who initiated legal proceedings against Sega in 2013 to reclaim intellectual property rights to the franchise. That same year, his crowdfunding campaign for The Big Blue, a spiritual successor to Ecco the Dolphin, failed to secure full financial backing. A settlement reached between Sega and Annunziata in 2016 appears to have paved the way for this official collaboration to materialize.
