Disney+’s ‘Alice And Steve’ Dominates At Canneseries Awards

Disney+ UK series Alice and Steve starring Jemaine Clement and Nicola Walker has scooped three gongs at the Canneseries Awards.

The show from Baby Reindeer producer Clerkenwell Films won the Best Series, Special Interpretation Award for ensemble cast and Student Award at tonight’s ceremony.

Created and written by Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education), the six-part series out of Disney+’s UK team follows Alice (Walker), who is devastated when her best friend Steve (Clement) starts dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy (Yali Topol Margalith). It premieres June 8 on Disney+ and Hulu.

The show was one of the buzziest to premiere at a starry Canneseries, which included the likes of Richard Gadd’s new show Half Man and For All Mankind spin-off Star City.

In competition, Alice and Steve came up against the likes of Florence Longpré’s Canadian show Empathie, which won the Europe 1 Audience Award, Finnish sports drama Guts, which won Best Performance for star Roosa Söderholm, and Best Docuseries winner The Deal with Iran.

Canneseries has been taking place over the past week. It featured talks from the likes of Alien: Earth creator Noah Hawley, White Lotus producer David Bernad and Gadd.
