Crimson Desert Players Battling Cursed Book That Interrupts Boss Fights and Refuses to Disappear

Cursed Book Becomes Bane of Boss Fights in Pearl Abyss RPG

Crimson Desert players are facing an unexpected adversary in their battles: an Equipment Manual that automatically opens during boss encounters and refuses to close until every page has been read multiple times over.

The Troublesome Equipment Manual

According to numerous reports on Reddit, the Equipment Manual—described in-game as a guide for operating factory equipment—has become a persistent nuisance. The book triggers automatically after player defeats in boss fights or when attempting to pause during combat. Remarkably, the manual will not disappear until users flip through all its pages, regardless of how many times they have previously read it.

Some players report being unable to discard the item entirely, with certain accounts suggesting the book remains until the associated Elixir Factory quest line is completed. The Equipment Manual cannot be sold, further compounding player frustration.

Player Reactions

The situation has sparked considerable frustration across the gaming community. Players describe the experience with colorful language, comparing the mysterious tome to the cursed book from the Evil Dead franchise due to its ominous appearance featuring brown swirls on its cover.

"Every time you die to a boss, this crap pops up. And it means you can't pause. If you do, you open a damn book in the middle of a fight and you die,"

Multiple Reddit threads document the ongoing problem, with players expressing particular anger over the interruption's impact on their ability to pause gameplay during critical moments. One comment reads: "If I push your escape one more time and it opens a book instead of pausing the game I'm gonna blow my top."

Bug or Intended Feature?

While developer Pearl Abyss has not officially addressed the issue, the widespread nature of complaints suggests this may be an unintended bug rather than a deliberate game mechanic. Whether the company will issue a patch to resolve the matter remains uncertain.
