Argentine Keeper's Violent Outburst Sparks Outcry: Andrada Punches Opponent After Red Card in Spanish Derby
Goalkeeper's Assault Leads to Mass Brawl and Club Condemnation
Real Zaragoza goalkeeper Esteban Andrada faces significant disciplinary action following a shocking incident during a contentious relegation battle with Huesca in Spain's second division, where he struck an opponent moments after being sent off the field.
The Argentine custodian received his marching orders after collecting a second yellow card for fouling a Huesca player during stoppage time in what had already been a fiercely contested encounter. Rather than accepting his dismissal, Andrada inexplicably charged toward Huesca captain Jorge Pulido and delivered a punch to his face.
The assault triggered a cascade of violence, prompting additional expulsions for Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza defender Dani Tasende as order descended into chaos.
Player and Club Responses
In the aftermath, the 35-year-old Andrada issued a public apology, acknowledging that he "lost focus" at a critical moment. The keeper, who holds four international caps for Argentina and is on loan from Mexican outfit Monterrey, expressed remorse for his conduct.
"The truth is I'm very, very sorry for what happened. It's not a good image for the club, for the fans, and especially not for a professional like myself," Andrada stated.
Zaragoza released an official statement expressing strong disapproval of the incident and pledging to implement appropriate internal sanctions. The club emphasized that such conduct contradicts the values and sportsmanship the institution has historically championed.
"These events do not represent the values of Real Zaragoza or its fans, who throughout its history have been characterized by sportsmanship, courage, and respect for the opponent," the statement read.
Match Outcome and League Situation
Huesca secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of Oscar Sielva's goal. Both clubs remain entrenched in the relegation zone with five matches remaining in the season.
Huesca manager Jose Luis characterized the incident as "a complete loss of control," while Zaragoza head coach David Navarro acknowledged that "there are lines we can't cross."
