Bruce Springsteen slams Donald Trump on Stephen Colbert’s penultimate show
On the eve of Stephen Colbert’s final The Late Show, Bruce Springsteen performed his anti-ICE protest song ‘Streets of Minneapolis’. The Boss used the opportunity to thank Colbert, and hit out at Donald Trump - as well as Paramount head David Ellison.
Rock legend Bruce Springsteen appeared on Stephen Colbert’s penultimate show last night, hailing the talk show host as “the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can’t take a joke”.
“I’m here in support tonight for Stephen, because you are the first guy in America who lost his show because we got a president who can’t take a joke… And because Larry and David Ellison feel they need to kiss his ass to get what they want,” Springsteen said.
“Stephen, these are small-minded people,” he added. “They got no idea what the freedoms of this beautiful country are supposed to be about.”
The Boss, a vocal critic of Donald Trump, then performed his haunting anti-ICE protest song ‘Streets of Minneapolis’ in front of an image of the American flag projected against a wall, accompanied by messages like “RESISTANCE,” “TRUTH,” and “HOPE”.
The song, released in January, features the lines “We’ll remember the names of those who died / On the streets of Minneapolis” and names the victims of both tragedies: “Two dead left to die on snow-filled streets / Alex Pretti and Renee Good.”
Springsteen also takes aim at Trump advisor Stephen Miller and now ex-Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, both of which peddled falsehoods about Good and Pretti, accusing them of being “domestic terrorists”.
“Their claim was self-defense, sir / Just don’t believe your eyes / It’s our blood and bones / And these whistles and phones / Against Miller and Noem’s dirty lies.”

The Late Show gets cancelled tomorrow.
Stephen Colbert’s guests have been vocal about his firing, with his predecessor, David Letterman, speaking out against CBS, while Robert De Niro couldn’t help but mention the millions of missing Epstein files during the final ever segment of the Colbert Questionert.
Colbert has hosted the hugely popular show since 2015 and there has been speculation that he and the show were axed for political reasons. Colbert has been an outspoken critic of Trump since his initial inauguration in 2016. The show's cancellation was announced just days after Colbert mocked a $16 million settlement paid to Trump by CBS's parent company, Paramount, calling it "a big fat bribe."

Springsteen has clashed with Trump on numerous occasions, previously describing him as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous.”
Trump presidentially responded by calling Springsteen a “pushy, obnoxious JERK”.
The final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs tonight at 11:35 pm US ET – 5:35 am CET.
