Crypto Billionaire Justin Sun Files Fraud Lawsuit Against Trump Family's Digital Currency Platform

The entrepreneur claims his WLFI holdings were frozen by World Liberty Financial, preventing him from liquidating his electronic assets.

On Wednesday, prominent cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun initiated legal proceedings in San Francisco federal court, alleging that a cryptocurrency platform backed by the Trump family engaged in fraudulent practices and restricted his ability to access his investments.

According to court documents reviewed by Agence France-Presse, the Chinese-born digital currency magnate and former associate of former President Trump asserts that he invested US$45 million in WLFI tokens. The digital currency was introduced by World Liberty Financial in October 2024.

In recognition of his significant early investment at a time when WLFI had not yet gained substantial traction, company leadership designated Sun as a strategic adviser and granted him an additional 1 billion WLFI tokens as compensation, according to the legal complaint.

Following Sun's substantial commitment, investor participation in the platform grew considerably. By March 2025, World Liberty Financial — established by President Donald Trump's sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump — reported achieving US$550 million in digital currency sales.

Additionally, Sun purchased several million dollars of $TRUMP, a cryptocurrency meme token promoted by Donald Trump shortly preceding his second presidential inauguration in January 2025.

This acquisition resulted in Sun receiving an invitation to an exclusive gathering organized by Trump in Washington during May 2025, attended by the 220 largest $TRUMP token holders.
