Best Paralives graphics settings to prevent crashes and get max FPS

Paralives is now available on PC, and the early access launch hasn’t been entirely smooth. On one hand, the story and general progression feel nice. However, the performance is hardly satisfactory at this stage. Several users have also reported crashes, and I have encountered them as well.

Let’s find out how to get the best possible graphics and smooth performance during your sessions.

Before I dive deep, here’s a rundown of my current setup.

  • 32 GB of DDR4 RAM
  • AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
  • AMD Radeon 9060XT

While my specifications are comfortably above the recommended settings (according to Steam), I have encountered stutters and a couple of crashes. Here are my current settings I am using to prevent such occurrences.

  • Screen Resolution: 2560×1440
  • Environment Texture Quality: Medium
  • Frame Rate Cap: 60 Hz
  • Fullscreen: On
  • Vertical Sync: On
  • Object Rendering Distance: High
  • Grass Rendering Distance: High

First, you can go for better quality sliders in Environment Texture Quality. However, I have encountered lag whenever I tried to do so. This could be down to optimization and its current state. Hence, Medium seems like the stable way forward.

The same rule also applies for the Frame Rate Cap. Aiming to go for 144 Hz or higher makes little sense if you encounter stutters. With 60 Hz, the FPS seems stable and offers consistent gameplay. This value could be raised once we receive a few more patches during the early access period.

Vertical Sync ensures that the transitions between frames are smoother. While it can result in an artificial cap on FPS, the results will offer more stable gameplay. Hence, keep it on until the optimization improves during early access.

Both the Grass Rendering Distance and Object Rendering Distance sliders will require more resource power the higher you go. If you’re still having lags with my settings, you can set those two sliders to Medium.

Finally, don’t click on the screen when you’re in the starting loading screen. I encountered a crash when doing so. When I let the game load normally, there was no crash (until I had tinkered with the FPS cap). I am not the only one if Steam reviews are to be believed. Hence, it’s best to be patient and wait until you reach the main screen of Paralives.
