Berlinale Title ‘Light Pillar’ Acquired by Greenwich Entertainment for U.S. Theatrical Release (EXCLUSIVE)
Greenwich Entertainment has officially acquired the U.S. distribution rights for “Light Pillar,” the inaugural feature film from acclaimed Chinese director and screenwriter Xu Zao. This exclusive deal sets the stage for the film’s theatrical debut across the United States early next year.
The Shanghai-based Fengduan Pictures production garnered international attention during its world premiere in the Perspectives section of the Berlin Film Festival. “Light Pillar” is a distinctive 2D animated feature that skillfully integrates live-action sequences, notably featuring veteran actor Da Peng, who also served as an executive producer on the project.
The narrative centers on Zha, a janitor working at a long-shuttered and bankrupt film studio. Zha seeks refuge in a virtual realm, where he cultivates an online romance and dreams of journeying to the Moon. When his digital reality crumbles, the physical demolition of the old studio is ingeniously re-envisioned, becoming the dramatic backdrop for a new sci-fi production.
