As Red Dead Redemption 2 becomes the third best-selling game ever, actor Roger Clark says "it's the fans that keep it going"
Right ahead of the world becoming fully obsessed with GTA 6, Red Dead Redemption 2 has crossed another momentous milestone. The Western open-world playground is now the third best-selling game ever, according to Rockstar Games owner Take-Two.
This incredible achievement is noted in Take-Two's latest earnings report. A slide on the Red Dead series points out just how well the historic sandboxes have done for Rockstar, with a bullet-point on Red Dead Redemption 2's sales. Apparently, the game has shifted over 85 million copies to date.
That's a hefty number. As you may already know, Grand Theft Auto 5 ranks above it, but only in second, having sold around 230 million copies to date. The top position is split between Minecraft and Tetris - whether the latter's lifetime sales should count is a matter of contention, but either way, those are two monoliths of the industry.

It might be a while before Red Dead Redemption 2 gets close to those numbers, and the ranking will likely be disrupted before then by Grand Theft Auto 6, but for now, this is a huge moment. Roger Clark, who voices Arthur Morgan in the game, thanked fans on Twitter for making this such a career-defining work for him.
"Thank you, what an honor, it's the fans that keep it going," he says, in response to a post congratulating him on the game's continued success. It truly is the community that's kept Red Dead Redemption 2 alive, whether through mods, ongoing discussions, or deep-dives into the richly detailed world.
Heck, there are still unsolved mysteries players are trying to figure out to this day. It's a game that just gives and gives, and it'll continue to do so right up until we get Red Dead Redemption 3, I'm sure.
