As Overwatch Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary, Blizzard Wants The Hero Shooter To Be Unapologetically Itself
For most of its life, Overwatch has existed as a contradiction of itself. It launched in 2016 as a boxed product with the sparkly sheen of a modern blockbuster: tightly polished and buoyed by an optimism that defined pre-scandal Blizzard. But it immediately shifted into something else entirely. Gamers didn’t just want a finished game; they wanted a living one: more heroes, more maps, seasonal events, balance changes, lore drops, and so much else. In hindsight, it’s obvious. In 2016, it wasn’t.
