Since the beginning of 2026, approximately 2,000 people have been evacuated from frontline areas in southern Ukraine, including nearly 500 children and 32 people with reduced mobility.

Oksana Kozyrenko, head of the Civil-Military Cooperation Department of the Operational Command South, reported this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“The approximate number is about 2,000 people, of whom nearly 500 are children, and 32 are people with reduced mobility,” she noted.

Kozyrenko explained that, in accordance with the law, evacuations are carried out by government authorities, while Civil-Military Cooperation Department units assist, particularly when civilian services cannot reach populated areas. In such cases, the service members evacuate people via safe routes to locations where they are picked up by government transport.

Regarding evacuations from frontline areas over the past month, she noted that such statistics are not available because evacuations occur daily.

“From settlements where an evacuation has been announced, or where it has not yet been announced but the enemy is already conducting intense shelling, evacuations are carried out by road or rail through government agencies,” Kozyrenko explained.
