Anti-Trump Grievances Emerge as Investigators Probe Motive Behind White House Press Dinner Shooting

Federal authorities are examining anti-Trump sentiment as a potential motive in the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington DC, where the US president and senior administration officials were gathered. A manifesto allegedly penned by the suspect lists Trump administration personnel as primary targets.

Investigation Reveals Targeting of Administration Officials

Investigators believe the attacker deliberately sought to breach the event with the intention of harming Donald Trump and other high-ranking officials from his administration. Acting US attorney general Todd Blanche stated during a television appearance: "We do believe, based upon just a very preliminary start to understanding what happened, that he was targeting members of the administration."

The suspect has been identified as Cole Tomas Allen, 31, from Torrance, California. According to an official source speaking to the Guardian, a manifesto reportedly authored by Allen and published in full by the New York Post is authentic. In this document, Allen compiled a ranked list of targets for the planned shooting, positioning Trump administration officials at the highest priority level.

Prior Warnings and Written Communications

Approximately 10 minutes before shots were fired, White House officials revealed that Allen transmitted writings detailing his grievances against the administration to family members. A relative, identified by officials as Allen's brother, subsequently contacted law enforcement in New London, Connecticut.

According to New London police, they received contact at 10:49 pm—roughly two hours after the shooting—from an individual seeking to share relevant information. The department immediately forwarded this notification to federal authorities. The suspect self-identified as the "Friendly Federal Assassin" in his communications, a designation that mirrors language in the manifesto published by the New York Post.

Manifesto Contents and Stated Motives

The published manifesto opens with apologies to those who knew Allen and outlines his reasoning for the planned attack. The document indicates that FBI director Kash Patel was exempt from the target list. According to the text:

"I am a citizen of the United States of America. What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes."

The manifesto further emphasizes: "Turning the other cheek when *someone else* is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor's crimes."

The document also contains specifications regarding other potential targets: Secret Service agents would only be engaged if necessary, while Capitol police, National Guard personnel, hotel security, employees, and guests were designated as "not targets if at all possible (aka unless they shoot at me)."

While the manifesto does not explicitly name Trump, it references various grievances related to administration policies and recent events, including US military operations targeting drug smuggling operations in the eastern Pacific. Allen wrote: "I experience rage thinking about everything this administration has done."

Journey to Washington and Weapons Acquisition

Investigation has revealed that Allen traveled by train from California through Chicago before arriving in Washington DC, where he registered at the hotel hosting the gala several days prior to the incident.

Federal agents have interviewed Allen's sister in Maryland, who disclosed to investigators that her brother had lawfully purchased multiple firearms from a California gun retailer and concealed them at their parents' residence in Torrance without parental knowledge, according to federal officials.
