After surprise Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 explosion, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox's next game is "in the very early stages"

While Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has given Daredevil star Charlie Cox some experience in video game acting, he's finding his next gig in the space to be just as challenging as he gets through the "very early stages" of development.

Earlier this year, Cox revealed he was working on another video game following Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's big splash landing and award sweep, and that he'd be more involved in the process. Clair Obscur was his first big role in the space, but it's clearly opened a few doors for him – as contributing to one of the most awarded games ever does, I imagine.

Now, in an interview ahead of the BAFTA Games Awards, Cox tells GamesRadar+ that his next project is "in the very early stages" and has generally been enjoyable despite the extra work. "Feels like it's a new avenue for me," he adds.

Cox continues: "I'm learning quite quickly [that] it is a very different skill set, so it's not something you can just waltz into. So that's an interesting challenge. Just because you might be a good actor, or a working actor, doesn't mean that you could just go and do this stuff.

"It does feel like a slightly different muscle that you're using. It's fun to be challenged by something new. But, yeah, it's great. I mean, any involvement that the industry deems me, you know, valid for, I'll be up for it."

Naturally, as the project is very early in development, details are light on the ground for now. As for those new muscles Cox is working, I immediately wonder if he might be discovering the physical rigors of mo-cap performance – sometimes it's done by the actor who delivered the vocals, sometimes it's someone else entirely.

Cox himself made some positive waves just last year in fact, praising Gustave's mocap actor Maxence Cazorla as an essential part of making Gustave who he is, which is praise he reiterates in our interview with him, in fact.

Regardless, whatever Cox's new project ends up looking like, it nice to hear he's enjoying the process of discovering the ins and outs of acting in games following the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

A year later, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Daredevil star Charlie Cox has finally played the hit J'RPG: "I'm not very good at it."
