Skywind, the hugely ambitious fan project that aims to remake Morrowind in Skyrim's engine, just got its first update in almost two years and it sounds closer to completion than ever before.
Skywind was first revealed to the public shortly after Skyrim's official launch about 14 years ago, billing itself as a faithful recreation of Morrowind, only this time with a more modern look, a full voice cast, and all the benefits you'd expect from about three console generations of gaming improvements.

Of course, game dev progress isn't a complete science - these numbers are just an estimation. For the voice acting part, for example, the team is only waiting for three actors to hand in their submissions while 50 others work on retakes.
"Across all department, the most difficult groundwork is already in place," the video update explains, "allowing more pieces of Skywind to move toward completion. In 2026, progress on the project remains steady, but a handful of bottlenecks still stand in our way."
The dev vlog goes on to squash a common misconception within the fandom: "That Skywind has been worked on by the same small group of people, steadily chipping away at it for over a decade." In actuality, over a thousand volunteers have stepped in and out of the project over the years.
"The project has functioned more like a relay race, with the initial contributors having long since passed the baton." Since then, volunteers have "given what they could, when they could, to an idea they believed in." And judging by the footage shown off, it looks absolutely lush.
