A Warhammer-style XCOM miniatures game is on the way from developers of Fallout Factions
You better get caught up on how to use overwatch, because XCOM The Miniatures Game is on its way.
Teased by publisher Modiphius Entertainment, it seems as though this is a tabletop wargame in the vein of Warhammer 40K. Judging by the logo, it'll also be based on the rebooted series that started with XCOM: Enemy Unknown in 2012. However, very little else has been shown off about XCOM The Miniatures Game besides a quick "HELLO, COMMANDER" message posted on social media alongside the reveal. Fans are encouraged to sign up for more details, so we can presumably expect more in the not-so-distant future.

If you want to see what Modiphius can do, I'd recommend checking out the recent Fallout Factions game system - it's a wild ride, and can currently be found for $68.97 at Amazon instead of $100.
Judging by the use of tags specifically calling this out as a "wargame," XCOM The Miniatures Game should be a more in-depth, tactical experience than Fantasy Flight's board game adaptation from 2015 (which is often held up by fans as one of the best board games so far as video game tie-ins go). Indeed, I'm expecting terrain and cover rules to play a significant role here due to their prevalence across the video game series. The iconic overwatch mechanic (where you ready an operative to fire on foes if any come too close) is sure to be a significant feature, for example.

I've been writing about games in one form or another since 2012, but these days you'll find me managing GamesRadar+'s tabletop gaming and toy coverage (I spend my time here handling everything from board game reviews to the latest Lego news). I've also been obsessed with Warhammer since the 1990s, and love nothing more than running tabletop RPGs like D&D as a Dungeon Master.
