‘A Man Of His Time’, Starring Swann Arlaud, Earns 11-Minute Standing O At Cannes World Premiere
Emmanuel Marre’s A Man Of His Time (Notre Salut), the 1940s-set drama starring Swann Arlaud (Anatomy Of A Fall), earned a respectful 11-minute applause following its Cannes Film Festival world premiere today.
Marre brought his own small film camera into the auditorium today and was filming cast, crew and the polite ovation, which was one of the longest of the festival so far, only surpassed in Competition by Garance.
Debuting in Competition, the film sees Arlaud playing Henri Marre, inspired by the filmmaker’s own real-life great-grandfather, who arrives in Vichy with his political manuscript, which he intends to publish to make a name for himself in the new regime and help save France – and himself – from collapse. Belgian actress Sandrine Blancke also stars.
The French-language film is Marre’s second feature after Zero Fucks Given, which he co-directed with Julie Lecoustre and which premiered in Cannes’ Critics’ Week in 2021.
